What is Yoni Steaming?
Yoni steaming, also known as vaginal steaming, is an ancient practice with roots in various cultures, including ancient Egypt. THIS PRACTICE HAS BEEN AROUND for thousands of years and is utilized throughout many healing traditions and cultures from Egypt, South America to Africa, Europe, and Asia. Our ancestors believed in the therapeutic benefits of herbal steam baths for women's health, utilizing them to promote fertility, cleanse the reproductive system, and enhance overall well-being.
This practice involves sitting over a steaming pot of herb-infused water for about 10-30 minutes per session, depending on your body and menstrual cycle history. As the steam rises, the herbs are thought to penetrate vaginal tissue, cleansing and soothing the vagina and uterus. It's not just a physical cleanse; yoni steaming is also known for its meditative qualities and its ability to help conceive, to bring in a creation, and purify your internal waters by connecting to your womb and yoni in this sacred way.
You can enjoy a yoni steam session at a spa or in the comfort of your own home. For additional support, instructions, and personalized herb recommendations, it's recommended to connect with a practitioner. Amanda offers yoni stem gift packs with her womb healing packages.
The Benefits of Yoni Steaming

- Postpartum Healing: Supports postpartum healing and soothing.

While empirical evidence supporting these claims is limited, many people report feeling relaxed and rejuvenated after steaming, incorporating it into their self-care routines. Even though there is no “scientific evidence,” I know it works! Yoni steaming uses natural herbs that soothe, balance, and nourish the reproductive system without disturbing the natural environment of the vagina and uterus.

Cervical Fluid Discharge After Yoni Steaming
There are a few potential side effects of yoni steaming to be aware of. Some people experience cervical fluid or discharge after a steam session, which is normal and usually nothing to worry about. The steam allows the vagina to release dead cells and bacteria.
Typical discharge after yoni steaming:
- Can range in colour from clear to milky white, yellow, or brown.
- Should not have a strong odour.
- Can vary in intensity based on your menstrual cycle, hydration, and stress levels.
If you experience any rash, pain, or itching, it could indicate an infection, and you should consult a medical professional immediately.

- 2-3 Cups of water
Directions
1. Prepare 3 cups of boiling water in a big pot on the stove.

3. Place herbs intentionally in the pot and cover for 3-5 minutes while you meditate, holding one hand on your heart and the other on your womb.
4. Place your pot on the ground in your sacred space.
5. Cover your front and back with a towel so that the steam is directed into your yoni and pelvic zone.
6. For safety please place your hand over the steam first to make sure that it’s not too hot.
7. Use one of the positions below and set over the steam for 5 to 30 minutes (be guided by your intuition). Breathe deeply, feeling your intention radiate throughout your body. Release the medicine back to the earth by taking the pot and depositing the plants outside.
Allow time for integration after your ritual in stillness and quietness, to absorb the wisdom of the plants.
Positioning Your Body
You can use a yoni throne (picture below) or the toilet. Place the bowl in the toilet and sit on the seat with a towel.

Guidance after yoni steam and yoni hygiene
STOP using soap around your vagina it’s not dirty to just use water. Soup disrupts the natural PH of your vagina causing thrush, irritation and other fungal issues.
STOP using Fem fresh!! Why?!!!!! why do you need it? You actually don't. They are just great at marketing. All of chemicals and toxins around your delicate and sensitive vagina. STOP
Harmful Effects of Using Tampons and Pads:
Traditional tampons and pads often contain toxins and chemicals that can be harmful when in contact with the delicate yoni. Many conventional menstrual products are made with synthetic materials, fragrances, and bleaches that can disrupt the natural pH balance and cause irritation or allergic reactions.
Potential Harmful Effects:
- Chemical Exposure: Tampons and pads can contain chemicals like dioxins, chlorine, and synthetic fragrances, which may pose health risks.
- Irritation and Allergic Reactions: The delicate skin of the yoni can react to synthetic materials and chemicals, leading to itching, rashes, and discomfort.
- Disruption of Natural Flora: Chemicals in menstrual products can disrupt the natural vaginal flora, increasing the risk of infections and other health issues.
Alternatives: Menstrual Cups and Organic Period Undies:
Switching to safer, more natural alternatives can help protect your yoni from harmful chemicals and toxins. Here are two excellent options:
- Menstrual Cups: Made from medical-grade silicone, menstrual cups are a reusable and eco-friendly option that collects menstrual blood rather than absorbing it. They do not contain harmful chemicals and can last for years with proper care.
- Organic Period Undies: These are made from organic cotton and other natural materials, providing a comfortable and chemical-free option for menstrual care. They come in various styles and absorbencies to meet different needs.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
Do not steam when pregnant or on your bleed. The best time to steam is in the Autumn luteal (phase, 7 days before your bleed) after ovulation.
Amanda works with the wheel of the year and can explain all of this to you at your womb healing session or at the Retreats.
